AcnePreventionEtc.com – Creating Content That Users Are Searching For
AcnePreventionEtc.com - SEO Project #2 - Update 4
5Â Hour Spent On Adding Content & Bookmarking - 33 1/2 Hours Left
$480 Spent On Content - $520 Left
I just spent half of my budget on 40 articles. I plan on adding 25 of them to the site and the other 15 I plan to use for posting on article sites to obtain traffic and backlinks.
The biggest thing I've learned over the last year is you have to write for your site visitors and not for search engines. You have to get in the mind of the search engine user.  What do you think a user searching for Proactiv is looking for? Do you think they are looking for an article that has general information on what Proactiv is, contains the word bolded three times, and has a keyword density of 3 - 7%? Probably not! Most likely, this user is looking for Proactiv prices, coupons, and user reviews. You have to provide content that benefits your end user.
I made sure the content I created fit this bar. I also purchased a copy of PhpBay Pro. This made adding physical products and prices to the site very easy. This software was a huge time saver and I can use it on as many sites as I want. Checkout this page I created with PhpBay Pro.
I didn't want to add all the articles at once. I plan to add about five articles a week. It took me about five hours to add the five articles to the site. This is considerably longer than average. I spent a lot of this time tweaking the site layout. I also spent a portion of this time updating the sitemap with a free software called GSiteCrawler and running a few passes with Bookmarking Demon to start getting some backlinks.

Hey Brent,
I saw your comment over at Josh Spaulding’s site and suddenly thought… “Why don’t I get Brent Crouch Updates Anymore?”… So came over and signed back up.
Anyway, this is forest from The Random Forest but I am now doing most of my writing at a new blog RealBloggingTips.com.
Funny enough I have just started a case study for an Acne site using the $5 Formula technique.
Anyway, I hope you are well.

@Forest- Thanks for stopping by.
How are things going with your project? I’m a bit disappointed. I’m starting to get some traffic, but I have less than a 10% CTR. I use the same template on a couple of other sites and can consistently get a 20 – 30% CTR. I’ve been trying to test ad positions, colors, sizes etc. I just can’t get this niche to break through a 10% CTR.
I’m at the point I don’t know if I want to waste anymore resources on it. I may scrap this project and start over.
Forest Says:
My case study has only just started so I am not sure yet…. but I will try and keep you informed.
I guess not all niches or sites work out but the more that you do work on the broader spectrum of things to profit from that you have… You never know, some of your under performing sites could randomly kick into life in a few months.
