Starting a Business With Wholesale Knives
If you've always enjoyed collecting knives but the growth of your collection was always hampered by a lack of funds, you may want to consider starting a business buying and selling wholesale knives. By buying wholesale knives and selling them at a markup, you can generate enough of a profit to add the knives you want to your collection while making some extra spending cash at the same time.
If you want to buy and sell wholesale knives, the first thing you need to do is find a wholesale knives supplier. A good wholesale supplier will not charge you an up-front fee to access their catalogs or price lists, but they will usually enforce minimum quantity and minimum order requirements. Each of the wholesale knives suppliers on the market has their own terms and conditions and they vary from supplier to supplier. Make sure you fully understand the terms and conditions of any wholesale company before placing an order with the establishment.
When you start shopping for wholesale knives, you may be surprised to find out just how much of a markup you've been paying the stores for the knives in your collection. A collector's knife that sells for $100 in the store may only sell for $15 or $20 wholesale. That's bad news for you in regards to the knives you've already bought, but that's great news now that you're getting into the wholesale knives business.
When you start buying wholesale knives and selling them for profit, you need to determine which knives you're going to carry. If you're going to use a drop-shipping service, then you won't need to be as selective when deciding which items to sell. Since you don't need to carry an inventory, you can offer all of the wholesale knives your supplier carries. However, if you don't work with a company that offers drop shipping or you chose not to use drop-shipping services, you'll want to carefully determine which wholesale knives you purchase for your initial inventory.
If you have limited funds available for your beginning inventory, you'll want to limit yourself to two or three types of wholesale knives when you make your initial order. Oftentimes a small pocket knife, a multi-purpose camping knife and a knife gift set are good starting items. Then, as you begin to pull in a profit, you can dedicate some of that profit towards increasing your inventory of wholesale knives.
Good Luck with your business,
